A Brief History

St. John Vianney Catholic Church was founded in September 1997.

In 1997, Round Rock’s catholic population grew, requiring a second parish to be opened. In May of the same year, Bishop John McCarthy asked Father Samuel Hose to become the founding pastor. He then offered nine acres of land on Sunrise Road as a possible construction site. See This Site

During the preparations to open a new parish, a house and two acres of land on Lake Drive became available. The parish bought that property to become the rectory with the help of the diocese.

In late August, potential parishioners had a special meeting, an evening of prayer and discernment of the new parish’s name. And the result was St. John Vianney Catholic Church. On September 1, 1997, Bishop John McCarthy issued the formal parish establishment proclamation under the patronage of the parish priests’ patron saint. On September 14, 1997, the first mass was celebrated, the Feast of the Triumph of the Cross.
